Scholarship
Since 1990, I have been the host and producer of the weekly radio talk show “2nd Chance”, heard Sundays on Oakwood University’s radio station, WJOU, 90.1 FM and on the Internet at www.wjou.org. The show explores a wide range of topics including community initiatives, local, national, and international events and the people behind them. “2nd Chance” has broadcast more than a thousand shows providing information and inspiration to listeners. Hundreds of guests have shared stories of courage and stories of success in spite of tremendous odds, most involving ordinary people with extraordinary experiences who have inspired others along the way.
In November, 2010, the show will celebrate 20 years on the air. In recognition of this milestone, I have decided to endow a scholarship of at least $25,000 at Calhoun Community College for students who have overcome adversity in their life and desire a second chance to earn a degree or certificate. “In honor of their life commitment to education, this scholarship will be established in memory of my parents and named the Jack & Annie Anderson 2nd Chance Endowed Scholarship,” said Anderson. The scholarship will support the academic success of students at Calhoun where it has been my pleasure to work professionally for the past 14 years, and I currently serve as Dean of Humanities & Social Sciences.
In my experience, I have found community college students to be one of the best and the brightest in the education arena, and I want to establish a legacy that will continue to provide financial support for them for years to come. I hope that you will consider joining me in establishing this scholarship and this legacy.
